Betty Boo Meets Hal 9000 - A Taste Of Unconscious Honey
Here’s some new music I’m listening to these days. In fact, it’s music I co-produced with my husband!
Unconscious Honey, aka Björn Trenker, makes music he likes to describe as ‘finding a piece of dusty jewelry in a cluttered basement and making it your own. The idea is to translate real life muddiness into pop precision.’ Further influences come from such disparate sources as Cassavetes‘ A Woman Under The Influence, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Lady Miss Kier, Todd Haynes’ Safe, La Camilla, Gloria Steinem and Samuel Steward. The aesthetic is DIY, while the liberal use of vocoder amps up the emotional impact. In short, Betty Boo meets Hal 9000.
Björn took a year off to write a collection of songs, later inviting me along to help turn the project into fruition. The first result is this melancholy bit of synth pop called ‘Sleepless,’ available to hear now on his Sound Cloud page.
